The City of Berkeley Civic Arts Program is currently seeking panelists to serve on our grants review panels for Fiscal Year 2021/22. The Civic Arts Program review panel process is designed to ensure that our grantmaking is tranparent, thoughtful and reflective of our cultural equity values — empowering communities historically underserved in the arts and in Berkeley. Berkeley's Civic Arts Grants provide funding in three categories: 1. Berkeley-based arts organizations; 2. Individual artists; and 3. Festivals and cultural events taking place in Berkeley. Each grant category will be reviewed by a separate panel. Panelists will review grant applications for their assigned category and meet in a publicly accessible setting with their fellow panelists to discuss and score the applications.
The Civic Arts Program seeks panelists based in the greater Bay Area who are deeply knowledgeable about the arts, cultural events, festivals funding, cultural equity, and promising practices for nonprofits. Panelists may be artists, arts administrators, and/or strongly rooted in fields related to cultural equity. Staff does due diligence to ensure that the makeup of our panels is equitably representative of Berkeley’s demographics and the specific applicant pool, as well as equitable representation of artistic disciplines and organizational expertise. Once an application is received an additional short demographic survey will be emailed to obtain further information.
Our panel review will occur in Spring 2021 through Zoom. The Zoom webinar will be to the public to observe, but will not be recorded.
